Winter Park City Hall to consider four-day work week
The move comes after a survey aimed at improving employee recruitment and satisfaction

City commissioners next week will consider moving City Hall from a traditional five-day work week to a four-day week comprised of 10-hour days.
About 80% of employees voted in favor of the change in a recent survey and similar changes are already in place in nearby Maitland and Casselberry. The goal of the change is to improve employee engagement and improve staff retention and recruitment.
The police and fire departments as well as the parks and recreation department would be excluded from the change, according to a staff memo. City Hall would remain open five days a week.
The financial impact would be “minimal,” the memo stated.

I think it sounds good, but a 10 hour day, 4 days a week is not any easier, IMO. In a small office setting where work can be easily monitored, 4/10 can work. 500 employees? If it passes I’m not sure we’ll ever really know the results. I think it would be hard to keep track.
Puts me in the mind of when hospitals decided 12 hour shifts was the way to go. Ask anyone who’s had a hospital stay or visited somepne in the hospital if they can find anyone to do anything. Ever. Winter Park residents pay for and expect a level of service not easily confined to 20% fewer “business days” per week. The work ethic in this nation may never return. I’m not a fan.

City Hall needs to be staffed Monday through Friday. I have no problem with a four-day workweek (wish it had been around years ago), but they need to stagger the staffing so all departments are functional Monday through Friday. I’d say have half the employees on Monday through Thursday and the other half on Tuesday through Friday.

A close by City (to remain nameless out of courtesy to those working there who actually do their jobs) has already instituted a four day work week. Monday to Thursday 7-6.
For kicks call and see if you get any service 7-8 am or 5-6 pm. If they start to allow work from home, then lord help us all!
Wonder if we could do a Wednesday through Saturday and a Sunday through Wednesday split work week. Someone would always be available. NO! Stick to the 5 day work schedule.
